I am a multiple. Before I explain further, I should specify that I do not consider myself disordered–or rather, that I do not consider my multiplicity to be a product of my disorders, or vice versa. I believe that I share my ‘headspace’ and my body or ‘hardware’ with two other, entirely independent thinking entities. These two other entities I commonly refer to as the ‘twins’. These beings have occupied this space long before I came here. They where born into this body together, and would probably classify as what some would call a ‘natural multiple’. I would best be classified as a ‘walk-in’, having entered into this body at a later time. There are three of us total, and I am one of the more dominant of the three. Together we refer to our system as the Mitsugami System, ‘mitsugami’ is a Japanese name meaning ‘three kami’, or spirits.
I don’t consider my multiplicity to be a disorder or a disability. Over the years I’ve developed a symbiotic relationship with the other two members of my system, and we’ve grown to consider our plural nature to be an adaptive trait in interfacing with the world around us. My view of the world around me is strongly affected by my life and experiences as a multiple. This may be evidenced in some of the posts I write in here. Part of my goal in keeping this blog is to write from the perspective of a non-disordered multiple–one that is not multiple as the result of trauma or abuse. This does not mean that I have a problem with multiples who are created this way, however I do feel that those multiples such as myself are in the vocal minority who’s viewpoints should be expressed.
Above this page you’ll find our Multiple Code, which can be translated if you have any further questions on my system and how it functions.
